Dear New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Community Member:
As a result of the collaborative work of our administration and Board of Education, and the input
from our community, we are proud to present a budget that is educationally and fiscally responsible
during these financial times. This proposed budget carries NO TAX LEVY INCREASE and remains
BELOW THE DISTRICT’S TAX LEVY CAP. This was able to be accomplished by applying
the anticipated influx of state aid to fund the 2023-2024 budget. The decision to have a 0% tax levy
increase was a deliberate decision to help pass the savings on to the taxpayers during these economic
times. The budget includes a commitment to maintaining programs and all staff, with a focus on
improving student achievement.
Highlights of the proposed budget include:
• Preservation of all instructional programs.
• Continuation of coding and robotics, Project Lead the Way, K-6 dance residencies through
BOCES Arts in Education, Odyssey, Mathletes and world languages for all.
• Full-day pre-K for all.
• Addition of new personnel, including a school psychologist, purchasing agent, math/science
coach, teaching assistant for world language, security coordinator, director of personnel and
speech therapist.
• Addition of special education class 12:1:1.
• Future-Ready Library Media Centers and Innovation Labs.
• Purchase of two new trucks with plow/sander.
• New chimes and mini keyboards for music classes.
• iPads with Apple pencils for art classes.
• Purchase of heart monitors, Bluetooth speakers and Fitness Gram for physical education
classes.
• Facilities upgrades including replacement of basketball hoops (glass backboards), painting and
replacement of flooring in libraries, replacement of gymnasium padding at HGS and MO, and
repair of gymnasium padding at GCP.
• Capital transfer projects will include roof upgrades, fire alarm replacements/upgrades, camera
upgrades/replacements, safety vestibules and door hardware replacement
