Manor Oaks School sixth graders and faculty went “screen-to-screen” in a “Are You Smarter Than a Sixth Grader?” virtual game show on Feb. 12.

The event, which was coordinated by physical education teacher Lisa Santos, was held in place of the yearly volleyball game between sixth graders and their teachers. Due to the pandemic, the school came up with a way to still continue the tradition of providing a special event for the sixth grade students before winter break.

Topics included history, pop culture, math, geography, food and more. After 31 questions, the students won with a final score of 20-13.

Seven students from Manor Oaks School and Hillside Grade School were selected to participate in the virtual Nassau Music Educators’ Performance Readiness Workshops, from Feb. 5-7. The students were nominated for participation by their school's music teacher. During the workshops, they performed solos for top music professionals from the music education and performance fields, and/or participated in group musical activities during their assigned session. It was a unique opportunity for musically talented students to share their skill and love of music in a virtual environment!
