Throughout February, in recognition of Black History Month, Hillside Grade School’s music classes highlighted themes and genres of music that celebrated contributions of Black Americans.
Fifth graders learned about the Blues, including its origins in the Deep South in the 1860s and traditional Blues form of songwriting. As a class, they collaborated on a song together using the proper form. Then, they worked individually on their Chromebooks to write their own Blues song.
Hillside’s music classes are led by teacher Joanna Malaszczyk.
