New Hyde Park Road School recently partnered with Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students from Sewanhaka High School and Elmont Memorial High School and Junior Achievement for High School Heroes. JA High School Heroes provides leadership development opportunities to high school students who deliver JA programs in elementary schools.
Students in kindergarten through third grade received JA lessons on financial literacy, civic engagement and community values, taught by the high school students. The lessons included JA Our City, which introduces students to financial literacy, how people manage their money and the importance of economic exchange within a city; JA Our Families, which explains how family members' jobs and businesses contribute to the well-being of the family and of the community; and JA Ourselves uses storybook characters in read-aloud and hands-on activities to introduce the role people play in an economy.
