Social Media Responsibility Workshops

Garden City Park School and New Hyde Park Road School fifth and sixth graders learned how to be responsible on social media during assemblies held on May 16.

Presenter Lamar Lee went over the multiple social media platforms with the students, including Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and more. He had the students answer “true or false” prompts, such as “When I post something online, nobody can tell who I am because it is anonymous” and “It is important for me to be careful about sharing personal information online.” The students also learned about digital footprint, “stranger danger” in the virtual world and cyberbullying.

The assemblies concluded with Lee urging the students to “T.H.I.N.K.” (Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it necessary? And, is it kind?) before posting.
