Hillside Grade School fifth graders Carita Chai, Zoe Lee and Gianna Ramos qualified to participate in the Statewide Elementary Mathematics Tournament, hosted by the New York State Education Department and First in Math, at the University at Albany on June 1.
The tournament consists of a virtual regional contest, which is the qualifying round, and an in-person statewide championship event.
All of the Mathletes students in the district participated in the virtual regional competition. The contest focused on the 24 Game series in the First in Math online program Skill Sets, testing students’ fact fluency, automaticity, problem solving, procedural fluency and other math skills
Carita, Zoe and Gianna’s high scores qualified them to be invited to the in-person championship event. Their school will also receive a plaque and a $1,000 prize from NYSED.
