Manor Oaks School fourth graders and fifth graders went on a very exciting field trip to watch the Long Island Nets play at the Nassau Coliseum for their annual Education Day. The students had such a great time cheering on the team, and they really enjoyed being in this new environment and being exposed to such a positive atmosphere. All throughout the game, students got the opportunity to participate in answering academic questions from categories such as math, history and science which all connected to basketball and the Long Island Nets team in different ways. This was an unforgettable experience for our students and they were thrilled to end the day by watching a Long Island Nets victory!

To launch PARP (Pick a Reading Partner), Manor Oaks School students in grades K-6 participated in Adventure Bound’s Wild and Crazy Challenge on Jan. 23, sponsored by the school’s PTA.

As the school’s PARP theme this year is “Win to Read,” the PARP committee organized the game show for the students to answer trivia questions and participate in physical challenges, like building the tallest LEGO tower, stacking cups and more.

Throughout the two-week event, students will participate in multiple themed in- school events, such as Pictionary in Pajamas, Chutes and Ladders Day, Word Search Day and more. They are also able to play Moe-opoly, created by school librarian Natalie Hartmann, completing various challenges during the event.

Each student signed a contract to pledge to read together with their selected reading partner at home for 15 minutes or more, five days per week, for the duration of PARP. The PTA will be providing prizes for all students, including the prizes that will be given to students during the closing ceremonies where students will be playing Bingo.
